Tutorial 2 - Lines Effect

 

This tutorial will show you how to make lines effect with ScanCamera


  1. -Make sure that your iPhone, iPod or iPad is steady. You can use modeling dough (1), a small tripod (http://www.shoulderpod.com) or simply the side of your device. Note that any stable surface can be used as a tripod.

  2. -Install your setup on a sidewalk and adjust your device to see people and vehicles on the street.

  1. -Use Lamp Width and Lamp Mode buttons (1) to get fixed vertical lamp and Lamp Width of 2. Note that the preview lamp is showing the scan settings, it is not doing the scan. Fixed lamp mode means that ScanCamera always copies the same pixel strip to the final image. If nothing is moving, images will contain only parallel lines.

  2. -Push the Preferences button (2) and set the Image Size to «2x» (4) to get wider image (Click here for full explanation on image size). Note that final image size and scan duration are displayed at the bottom of the screen, in the Information Layer. We also suggest to use Sound Effects to get a better feedback when recording the image.

  3. -Try increasing Lamp Width to get faster scan and a different effect (1).

  4. -For sharper resuts, you can change the Camera Resolution depending on your device capability (5).

  5. -Push Done button to come back to main screen.

  6. -Use green button to start image recording (3).

  1. -Recording may take some time but you can see your creation appear in real-time on the screen.

  2. -If you move your iPhone or iPod during the scan, a distortion will appear.

  3. -You could push on red button (6) to stop the recording if you are not satisfied and you need to recompose your image.

  1. -When recording is finished, final image appears in the ScanCamera library. You can come-back to main screen using Done button.

  2. -You can share or copy the image to your iPhone library using Share button (8).

  3. -By pressing on the Informations button (7) you will be able to see the settings used when creating the image. This can be very useful if you want to replicate a similar effects.

Now that you have the trick, we suggest to try different scanning modes and image sizes. Remember that with the Fixed Lamp mode, the magic comes from moving objects...
